Create: Community Arts Studio (CCAS) is proud to announce the acceptance of Maggie Chism, a high school sophomore at Petoskey High School, Emma Payton, a junior at Boyne City High School, Heather Davison and Sarah Sterling, both sophomores at Boyne City High School, and Koehn Manthei a sophomore at Concord Academy Boyne.
The Artist in Residence (AIR) program at CCAS is an intensive day program offered to High School students that forms a positive network of artists to expand one’s existing practice, work collaboratively, discuss art critically and inspire one another.
CCAS selects 5 aspiring artists for spring and fall residencies, offering an unparalleled studio experience for 10 graduates. Recipients are awarded dedicated studio space, a stipend for art materials and the opportunity to exhibit work in Gallery 151. Through a series of group lectures, visiting artists and studio tours the AIR will gain exposure within their communities and throughout the Northern Michigan area.
Artists must complete an online application and attend the Portfolio Review Day to apply. The studio determines recipients based upon the creativity and integrity of the individual, the ability to collaborate with other artists, and a strong desire to expand one's artistic practice.
These five artists will take part in the spring residency from Feb 1stto June 1st.
They exhibit both passion and artistic ability. It is an honor and a privilege to have them in the studio. The spring AIR will be exhibiting their work in May at the end of residency show in Gallery 151.
The AIR Program is grateful to be funded by organizations and individuals who believe in the importance of providing the arts for area youth and want to help them pursue their passions.
